Bette Davis Eyes

Mother of Mine

A full-length play in two acts, Mother of Mine concerns the life of a woman who is recently separated and on her own. Her relationship with her mother, which has never been good, takes on new, darker tones. We witness her life unraveling, in spite of the presence of her friend, sister and new love interest. In addition to exploring a mother/daughter relationship, the play also deals with the issues of anorexia and bulimia.

The Ostrich Club

A Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre play, The Ostrich Club runs as a one-act play, at a time of 30 minutes, with only an additional brief introductory scene before dinner. Set in a club in the 1940's, it references "The Big Sleep", with apologies to Raymond Chandler and his detective, Philip Marlowe, and Bette Davis', film, "The Letter". A classic 'who-done-it' with film noir overtones. It could also be done as a stand-alone piece, instead of dinner theatre.

Comedy. 30 minutes. 2 female. 2 male and one cooperative male audience member.

Cheap Goods: An Auction Adventure

Set in an antique shop, the play follows a day in the life of Bonnie and Bob, the couple who own the shop. We meet many of their regular customers, as well as a few surprise drop-ins. The play is structured in such a way as to allow one actress and one actor to play all of the roles in a seamless flow of logical exits and entrances. In all, each actor plays five characters.

Bette Davis Eyes

A one woman, one hour monologue with an on-stage dresser, playing multiple small occasional roles. Simple single set. Many costume and wig changes, done on stage without a break in the performance. The play is a retrospective of the life and career of Bette Davis, done in the first person. It takes place in 1950, right after finishing All About Eve, at the age of 43, and covers her life up until that point.

Confessions of an Art School Model

A one woman, one hour monologue, performed in the nude, with an artist on stage throughout, drawing the actor, who is playing an artist's model during a drawing session. Topics range from the history of erotic art to details of the model's own life.

Strawberry Monologues

A series of three comic monologues. The character is a young woman who lives with her mother. The monologues are all confessionals with her priest, taking place three days in a row.

Hillary

A radio play, commissioned by C.B.C. radio. Hillary is a young woman whose female relatives have a strong history of breast cancer. She would like to have genetic testing done to see if she has the defective gene which caused her grandmother's death. Her mother is against it, as this would also indicate whether she has it or not.

Drama. 20 minutes. 4 females, 1 male.

Four Old Biddies

Comedy in three short scenes. Four women are feeding pigeons in a park outside of the old folks home in which they live. The nurse from the home wants them back inside.

The Appointment

A one act play about an older couple waiting outside the doctor's office for the husband's first appointment with the doctor who will treat his cancer. He convinces her that he doesn't want any extensive treatment. He prefers to use whatever time he has left and not prolong it with painful treatments.

Mrs. Edwards

An elderly woman is placed in an old folk home against her will. She isn't interested in cooperating with the activity nurse. He grandson comes to visit her.

Forever

A man comes back to his home town and visits the home of his former best friend and his wife. The husband doesn't know that his wife and friend used to be in a relationship.

Dances With Sheep

A Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre - three acts with courses served during intermissions. A classic who-done-it with a movie theme. A famous director has just been murdered. Was it done by one of his ex-wives? The reporter? The famous egomaniac star?

Purple Petunia

A Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre - three acts with courses served during intermissions. A classic who-done-it with a cruise ship theme. The captain has just fallen overboard. Or was he pushed? If so, who did it?

Violet

A one woman monologue. Violet is packing up her last suitcase and leaving her home behind after her husband's suicide. She wonders if her daughter's allegations of abuse were true.

Drama. 15 minutes. 1 female.

Strawberry Jam

A woman tries to convince her mother that it is time to give up her home and move into an apartment. Her mother has a plan of her own.

Don't Answer that call

A monologue done while getting ready for a big first date. The woman talks about her kids, her ex. and her experiences of trying to put her life back together. She also focuses on computer dating and what this guy will be like.

Delivery

A young couple is in the hospital, waiting for the birth of their first child. What starts off as a warm bonding experience, with everything perfectly prepared, becomes a lot less fun as the contractions come closer together.

Transcona Heights

2 neighbours discuss life in their shared backyard. They have little in common, except their real estate. One is a married woman with a large dog and a wild son. The other is a recently separated mother with a lovely little daughter, who feels she should be living in better surroundings.

Comedy. 35 minutes. 2 females. 1 young boy. 1 young girl

Dracula

Based on the original by Dram Stoker, this version of the classic tale puts back many of the characters generally set aside in modern productions. With 18 speaking parts and large group scenes, it is ideal for a high school or community theatre group presentation. There can also be large dancing groups involved as peasants, wolves, ghosts and trees.
